DevOps Engineer 📚
We're looking for a DevOps Engineer who owns the infrastructure, not just maintains it.
About Knihobot
Knihobot is a recommerce platform on 9 markets, shipping books to 40 countries. We've sold over 10 million books and move 30,000 every day. We're the 16th fastest growing tech startup in CEE.
The role
Our Platform team is 3.5 people, including CTO David. You'll take real ownership of infrastructure: make architectural calls, spot problems early, and drive the roadmap. If something breaks, you'll know before customer support does.
What you'll own
- AWS infrastructure: Expanding and optimizing our cloud setup, with cost efficiency as a real constraint.
- Monitoring and observability: You define what "healthy" looks like. Alerts and dashboards for everything.
- Zero-downtime migrations: Including a live Kafka migration using Strimzi and MirrorMaker.
- CI/CD and deployment isolation: Per-PR isolation (MailDev, Manticore, Kafka cleanup) and Cypress in the pipeline.
- Scalability: Kubernetes resource configs, autoscaling with KEDA, spot instances for cost optimization.
- Developer blueprints: Standards so the rest of the team can self-serve on monitoring.
Current projects
- Kafka consumers with auto-distribution, circuit breakers, zero-downtime migration
- CDC with Debezium: MySQL to Snowflake, transactional outbox patterns
- Secrets management: replacing AWS Secrets → Terraform → K8s Secret with External Secrets Operator
- S3 upload refactor: UUIDs, presigned direct uploads
- A/B testing infrastructure across backend and frontend
Tech stack
- Core: Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform
- Tooling: ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Prometheus, Loki, KEDA
- Data/messaging: Kafka, Redis, Aurora, MySQL, Manticore Search
What we're looking for
- Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform: must have. Production experience, not just familiarity.
- GitOps mindset: You manage infrastructure the way developers manage code.
- Kafka: Advantage, not a blocker if fundamentals are solid.
- Ownership over perfection: You ship, then improve.
- Language: both English and Czech.
- Onsite: Kolbenova, Prague 9. Flexible hours. We're moving closer to the city centre later this year.
What we offer
- 100,000 – 154,000 CZK/month
- $50/month for AI tools, more if justified
- Option to get ESOP
- Professional development budget
- MultiSport card, book discounts, partner discounts
- You'll work directly with Simon and CTO David. Want to understand how the team thinks? Listen to the podcast with David and Simon.
