Cloud Engineer
The Cloud Engineer handles managing and supporting services running in AWS cloud and on Linux instances, ensuring them run efficiently and securely. This role requires experience with Linux system engineering, docker and AWS, familiarity with automation tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, Chef or Ansible and scripting skills in Python and/or shell.
A day in the Life...
- Design, implementation, and maintain cloud solutions, including infrastructure, security, and networking.
- Work with other teams to integrate and automate existing solutions and manage third-party tools like MFT (Managed File Transfer) or Retool (Low-Code platform).
- Use automation tools for AWS cloud management as code, such as CloudFormation and it's further abstractions like SAM or CDK.
- Use monitoring tools like Kibana, Elasticsearch and AWS CloudWatch to monitor cloud infrastructure and applications.
- Development and maintain scripts using Python and shell to automate tasks and processes.
- Collaborate with other teams to troubleshoot issues.
- Ensure compliance with company security policies, and patch systems regularly to address vulnerabilities.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for critical production issues.
A look outside the day to day..
- Research and recommend new cloud solutions and services to improve the company's cloud infrastructure and operations.
- Keep up to date with emerging trends in cloud technologies and make recommendations to the team.
- Contribute to the development of best practices and guidelines for cloud operations and engineering.
- Participate in training and mentoring activities to help other team members develop their cloud engineering skills.
Demonstrated education, skills and experience to be successful in this role:
- competence in Linux system engineering and administration, including shell scripting and command-line tools.
- working with AWS cloud services, such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
- with infrastructure as code (IAC) tools like CloudFormation and Terraform.
- with configuration management tools like Chef, Ansible or Puppet
- of networking principles and protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP(S).
- with monitoring tools such as Kibana, Elasticsearch and AWS CloudWatch.
- knowledge of k8s or other container orchestration platform
- problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- of security best practices and how to implement them in a cloud environment.
