Engineering Manager - Groupon NextGen Architecture

Engineering Manager - Groupon NextGen Architecture

  • Prague
  • Full-time

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead development in a large-scale product monorepo supporting multiple applications, shared packages, and end-to-end delivery workflows.

This role requires strong ownership, hands-on technical leadership, and a product-oriented mindset. You will be responsible not only for team execution, but also for the quality, direction, and business impact of the systems your team owns. We are not looking for a pure people manager. We want someone who stays close to architecture, code quality, delivery risk, and product decisions.

Our platform supports the lifecycle of Groupon offers, from internal tooling for deal creation, editing, QA, and publishing to shared systems used across connected product experiences. Because the codebase serves multiple applications and teams, engineering decisions have broad impact on delivery speed, maintainability, and product quality.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team responsible for maintaining and extending a shared monorepo serving multiple products and internal users.

  • Own a critical engineering and product area end to end.

  • Drive technical direction for shared libraries, repository structure, testing, build performance, and release workflows.

  • Partner with product, design, QA, and platform teams to deliver features safely and predictably.

  • Improve execution quality through strong standards in code review, architecture, observability, and delivery.

  • Work hands-on when needed to review changes, debug issues, guide migrations, and unblock complex work.

  • Mentor engineers and help them grow in ownership and technical judgment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience leading engineering teams in a modern web product environment.

  • Strong ownership and accountability for outcomes.

  • Hands-on technical depth in TypeScript/JavaScript and frontend-heavy systems.

  • Experience with monorepos, shared-code ecosystems, and developer productivity improvements.

  • Product-oriented thinking and ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs.

  • Ability to create clarity across teams and improve execution in complex environments.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Nx, Turborepo, pnpm workspaces, or similar tooling.

  • Experience with React-based platforms.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD optimization, repo performance, and large-scale codebase maintenance.

  • Background in e-commerce, marketplace, or high-traffic consumer products.
